Hey everyone! What has been your favorite part of the week? I can’t believe we are at the end of January already! Time really does fly! Today I am talking about the differences between ColourPop’s Ultra Matte Vs. Ultra Satin Lips. Keep reading to decide which one is right for you!
ColourPop Ultra Matte Vs. Ultra Satin Lips
Can you guess which one is Matte and which one is Satin just based on the picture above? Probably not because the packaging is identical… but I’m going to show you, but first what does ColourPop say about both formulas?
Ultra Matte: This thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips leaving SUPER intense colour with a bold, ultra matte finish. It’s very long wearing and completely kiss proof!
Ultra Satin: A lightweight, comfortable, bold lipstick with a Satin finish. This lipstick is extremely long wearing, although not completely kiss proof– you may leave some marks on your coffee cup!
Packaging, Price & Where to Buy.
The packaging for both these is typical liquid lipstick/lipgloss style packaging. However, these are two different types of formula I think they would have benefited from creating different looking packaging for each formula. The lettering on the outside of the tubes doesn’t last more than a week while being shuffled around in your purse so you can’t just look down and read which one is which. Kind of frustrating if you own several.
Price, both formulas, matte and satin are $6 each and you can buy them on ColourPop’s website!
(Sorry how out of focus this is)
As you can probably tell, this is the Ultra Matte formula. If you can see from my poor camera skills… I swatched the Ultra Matte lipstick in Marshmallow, let it dry down, and ran my finger across it. None of the lipstick transferred on to my finger. That is a good indication of how it will be on the lips.
This is the Ultra Satin lipstick in The Rabbit. I performed the same test, swatch, dry down, finger smudge. As you can see in this picture the lipstick transferred on to my finger.
The Differences.
After wearing both of these for some time while eating, drinking, at work. I was looking for longevity, comfort, and application.
Ultra Matte: If you are looking for longevity, this takes the cake. Once you put it on it does not budge until you take it off. You can eat, drink, and be merry in this and it still looks good. Along with that though, it is very drying… I describe it, like putting cement on your lips, the cement won’t move all day, but just think of how dry your lips are getting while wearing cement. My lips can handle it, but after I wear one of these I have to wear a thick lip balm the next day to balance my lips back out again. This also shows lines and cracks in your lips pretty bad, so if your lips are already really dry putting this on them makes it look like you’ve been in the desert for way too long without something to drink. Ultra matte for me work great when I’m at work and don’t have the time to touch up my lips throughout the day. This formula applies pretty well, but can be a little stiff and patchy. Nothing to worry about.
Ultra Satin: This formula is creamy, but not shiny. It does last a long time but it will transfer if you eat or drink while wearing it. When I wear this, somehow I end up getting it all over me, like by the end of the day it was all over my fingers. It transfers on coffee mugs, forks, and don’t even try to eat a burger or sandwich with this on because you will end up eating all your lipstick. But the comfort level for this is so worth it to me, you can rub your lips together and feel the creaminess. Your lips don’t fit tight, or dry at all. The application is smooth with little patchiness, and the color goes on bold.
So which one is for you?
If you are torn between which one to try, think of what you want in a lipstick, do you want it to last a long time and you don’t mind if they are a bit drying? Go with Ultra Matte.
If you don’t mind touching up your lips after eating, and need something less drying. Go with Ultra Satin.
I actually love them both for both of those reasons. I don’t always need/want my lipstick to last hours and hours. But sometimes I do. It just depends on the day.
I hope this post was helpful to you! Check out my last post on Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Oil.
Great comparison post! My favorite is definitely the Ultra Satins! This reminds me, I need to pull them out more often!
