Hey everyone!
Sorry I’ve been a little MIA, I needed a little break, but I am back and ready to go. If you are new to my blog, please make yourself at home. Today I am reviewing for you the Cover | FX Custom Blot Drops. A liquid blotting sheet? Is it actually worth the hype or is it just for gimmicks? Keep reading to find out more!
Cover FX Custom Blot Drops
What it is.
“A drop formula to reduce the look of shine, excess oil, and pores and create a mattified complexion.”
Packaging:
These Custom Blot Drops come in a glass bottle with 1 oz of product with a very clever twist pop up top that when you twist the top it pops up and fills the dropper with product. I will say this, if you lay your makeup down in a drawer or something this will need to be shaken up each time you use it to get the product to come out.
Price & Where to Buy:
The Drops are $42 and available at Sephora online or in stores.
How I Use it:
Cover FX suggests several different ways to use the Custom Blot Drops. I tried all of them to figure out which way I prefer…
- Under makeup almost as a primer | This works at smoothing out large pores or tiny fine lines. To me this works a lot like a primer. It does keep me matte for a while but definitely not all day.
- Over makeup/throughout the day for touchups, like blotting paper | Trying it this way was the scariest to me. After spending a lot of time doing my makeup I wasn’t super comfortable trying to blot my face with a gel. I did end up trying it, luckily later at night before taking off my makeup. I applied just a little bit to the areas that were oily and it completely smeared off all of my makeup, making it streak and honestly look horrible. I would never recommend trying it this way, unless you are trying to just completely remove your makeup.
- Mixed together with your foundation | This is my favorite way to use the Custom Blot Drops. Below is how it works for me.
I have been loving these drops with the L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation and Beauty Blender. But I have tried it with other foundations and brushes as well and I still get the same effect.
I squeeze out the perfect amount of foundation for me onto a damp Beauty Blender, then I take the Custom Blot Drops and push the dropper down to give me one drop of product. I mix the two together on the big end of my Beauty Blender and start stippling it onto my face.
Yea I know, I need to replace my Beauty Blender… it’s looking janky! :)
Finished Result:
These pictures were taken after wearing my makeup for about 6 hours.
Final Thoughts:
I think the Custom Blot Drops are a really innovative product. I honestly think when I use them it makes my foundation look absolutely flawless, almost airbrushed like. I think they are very lightweight and not a product that will make your skin oily (even though these are blot drops I still had to mention it). This also doesn’t strip your skin like other mattifying products do, but actually kind of hydrates. In my opinion there is really only one way to use this product to get the most benefits, and that is definitely mixed with your foundation. Even though these are supposed to act like a blotting sheets they don’t absorb oil all day long, I still get pretty oily when using this. If you have combo skin, or normal to even slightly dry skin, you should definitely try this out. It seriously makes for a beautiful foundation.
Does this replace blotting sheets for me? No it does not, I still need to use blotting sheets when I use this Custom Blot Drops.
Would I repurchase? Yes I would, but probably not as soon as I run out.
Do you blotting sheets? Would you try these Custom Blot Drops?
