DIY Scalp Treatment for Dryness & Frizz
Hey friends! Hope you had a great weekend
Lately, I’ve been washing my hair a lot more than usual (more on that later 👀), and my scalp and ends were screaming for a little TLC. I didn’t feel like buying a pricey treatment, so I whipped up this super simple DIY hair treatment — and y’all… it works.
If your scalp’s feeling dry, itchy, or your hair’s lost its shine, this natural remedy is a must-try.
DIY Scalp Treatment for Dryness & Frizz
What You’ll Need:
- Apple Cider Vinegar – I prefer raw, unfiltered with “the mother” for max benefits
- Honey – organic if possible (but whatever’s in your pantry will still work!)
Suggested amounts:
- 1/4 cup honey (adjust for hair length — I used half that for shorter hair)
- 10 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

How to Make the Treatment
Pour honey into a small bowl
Add apple cider vinegar (10 tablespoons) and mix well — the mixture will be very runny
Use immediately on clean, brushed hair

How to Apply It
Because the mixture is so thin, here are two ways to apply it:
In the shower: tilt your head back and pour slowly through your hair
Over the sink: have someone help pour it on while you gently massage it through
- Make sure every strand is coated!
Once applied:
Twist your hair into a bun
Leave on for 15 minutes
Rinse thoroughly in the shower and shampoo/condition as usual

Why This Works
Benefits of Honey for Hair
Natural humectant = attracts and locks in moisture
Rich in antioxidants and nutrients
Supports hair growth and softness
Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar
Soothes itchy, dry scalps
Removes product buildup and clarifies the scalp
Adds shine + reduces frizz
Stimulates hair growth
Leaves hair softer, bouncier, and more voluminous
Heads up: if you’re sensitive to strong smells, the ACV might not be your favorite part — but it’s worth it for the results!
Final Thoughts
This DIY treatment is a total game-changer if your hair is feeling dull, dry, or weighed down. It’s cheap, natural, and you probably already have the ingredients at home. I’ve been loving how soft and full my hair feels after using this — and I think you will too.

It is true- I did this as well many years ago. But I have a bit of a problem with the scent of vinegar- somehow I seem to be very sensitive to it and do not like it much and it lingers all day in my hair! ;-)

Yea the smell of vinegar isn’t for the faint. It is a very strong scent, but for whatever reason it just doesn’t bother me all that much. It does linger in the hair for a couple days but luckily, it isn’t as strong as when first applied. :)

I finally got myself together and tried this. It’s AWESOME! My scalp is constantly dry and flaky, and my hair is curly and frizzy. This treatment made my scalp feel great, cleared up the flakes, (which dandruff shampoo hasn’t been able to do for 5 years), and took away most of my frizz. Love it so much!
Would you mind if I share this on my blog, with a link to your site?
TheBeautySection
Aww yay I’m so glad you tried it and loved it! You may absolutely share this on your blog, please do! :)

I’m curious — how does it smell when you’re using the mask? ACV has a pretty strong, and rather unpleasant, scent to it. Did the honey help mask that so you weren’t gagging while letting the mask sit in your hair?
I once tried to use ACV mixed with a clay mask, as it’s supposed to be really good for oil skin. But I just couldn’t stand the smell on my face long enough to let it dry. :-P Yeah, I can be a wimp sometimes :-P
TheBeautySection
It’s not the best smell in the world as you know~ But honestly it didn’t bother me much because I’ve drank ACV when I have sinus issues so I’m pretty used to that smell. Plus when you put your hair up in a bun or something it kind of gets it out of the way and you don’t really smell it. I will say the bowl after I used it smelled pretty bad. The mix of honey and ACV didn’t smell that good afterwards…but it was worth it to me! :) Let me know if you try it!!

I’ve never tried either and I’m really about to because lately I’ve had a serious problem with dry itchy scalp. Love his!

My hair is thin and I live in Montana, where humidity is rather low, so it can get really dry sometimes. I knew honey was awesome for your skin and things like minor wounds, but dousing my hair in it sounds delicious. Going to try it in the shower right now!
TheBeautySection
Aww great, let me know what you thought about it! :)

ACV is the bees knees! So excited that you posted this! I’ve been doing something similar to this, but not with quite as much honey as you suggest. (Coconut oil, honey and ACV) Excited to try it out!
