DIY Sugar Scrub

May 12, 2014 By TheBeautySection 29 Comments

DIY Sugar Scrub, this makes your skin so soft and silky. Perfect for dry skin.

Hi friends!!

I hope you had a great weekend celebrating Mother’s Day! I love sugar scrubs especially this time of year when we start wearing shorts, dresses, and bathing suits. Sugar scrubs are perfect to exfoliate the skin but also hydrate it at the same time.

I’ve bought a ton of scrubs throughout the years but I love when you can save some money and whip one up in just a few minutes from things you probably already have at home. I found this Sugar Scrub on Pinterest a couple years ago and love it! Click here for the original post.

What you need.

DIY Sugar Scrub

The original post makes a little too much and when I made it the first time it started to mold before I could use it all, so I don’t make as much.

2 1/2 cups of Sugar / / I used 1 1/2 cups

1 cup of Olive Oil, Vegetable Oil, Canola Oil, or Coconut Oil / / I used a little more than half a cup of Vegetable Oil.Β

5 tablespoons of citrus juice, preferably fresh juice / / I used about 3 1/2 tablespoons of citrus juice from a bottle (it works the same to me)

What to do.

In no particular order just start mixing all of the ingredients together until completely mixed.

After you have completely mixed it together you have yourself a really cheap at home sugar scrub. What I like to do when it is all mixed up is pour it into a Mason Jar and keep it in my bathroom for easy access. It does start to not smell as great if it’s not used up in a couple weeks so just keep that in mind! These also make great gifts for your girlfriends, make more than the recipe calls for to fill up a whole Mason Jar and type a ribbon around it with a sweet card. Perfect.

This sugar scrub can also be used as a lip scrub to exfoliate dry lips. After you are done hop out of the bath and moisturize like crazy. You will have the softest skin of life. Seriously. Go. Try. This. Now. :)

I hope you enjoyed this DIY Sugar Scrub. If you have a great recipe, share it below!

I love D.I.Y. scrubs! I had never thought of adding citrus to them…maybe I’ll have to try this one :) My favorite right now is for my face. I apply coconut oil and lightly massage it for a minute or so, then I take about a spoonfull of brown sugar, rub it around in my palms and then lightly massage it all over my face in circles for about five minutes. Rinse with warm water and apply a ton of your favorite facial moisturizer. It is heavenly!

I found your post through the makeup Monday link up by the way :)

I’ve made a similar scrub before but with coconut oil. You can use it on your legs in the shower before you shave and it helps you get much smoother legs.

Thanks for sharing with Hump Day Happenings! I always love reading your posts.

I love making my own sugar scrub using half sugar, half coarse salt, plus olive oil and the zest and juice of citrus so I get all the essential oils. The best for at-home pedicures!

Yea it’s great for lips, elbows, arms, any skin that is dry. I probably wouldn’t really use it for your face though because of the oil in it. Thanks for stopping by! :)

I love sugar scrubs, but have never made one. Do you think it makes a difference whether you use vegetable oil or olive oil? I am not sure. I know that vegetable oil is less money. Thanks for the idea!!

No I don’t think so! I always use Vegetable oil because I don’t really care for the smell of olive oil. But what the oil is doing is giving your skin moisture while being exfoliated. It works great for that!!
