Have you ever heard of Dry Brushing your skin before? It may sound really crazy but the benefits are so good you are going to want to try this for yourself. Stick around to see exactly what I’m talking about.
What is Dry Brushing?
Dry Brushing is a literally what it sounds like, brushing your skin with a dry brush on dry skin.
What to use.

The bristles on a brush used for dry brushing are mostly natural instead of synthetic. You want the bristles to be pretty stiff, but not too hard, you don’t want this to be a painful experience.
Some of the brushes I’ve seen have long stems, while others are short. That really just depends on personal preference. I like a long handle because it makes it easier to reach in hard to get places. Here is a brush from Amazon from the Dr. that came up with Dry Brushing.
You’ve probably seen a brush like this so many times, I had seen them a lot and just always thought they were old school bath tub brushes that people used for decoration or something. I was really thinking out of the box! :)
What to do.
I always dry brush before I get in the shower, make sure your brush and your body are completely dry. Don’t put any product on the brush or yourself or you won’t get the same benefits.
Start at your feet and always move in long upward strokes going towards your heart. So do your feet, move to your legs front and back, hands and arms, both shoulders, chest, and stomach. Every time you get to a different part of your body make sure you are still going towards your heart. When it is time to do your stomach go in a circular motion all the way around until all the skin is covered. Also use this on your booty :) and upper thighs in a circular motion as well. Don’t brush your face or any other delicate areas.
After you are finished dry brushing, jump in the shower and rinse off all the dead skin and do your normal routine, when you get out, moisturize the heck out of your skin. When you dry brush you are opening up your pores allowing your moisturizer/body butter to work much better.
The Benefits.
I know this is the part you have been waiting for… what good does this do?
1 // Exfoliation: The main reason I started dry brushing was to exfoliate the dead skin on my body. It does exactly that. Going in long upwards strokes towards your heart makes the dead skin on your body slough off, therefore producing new skin. Because you are sloughing off the dead skin your skin will start to have a natural glow.
2 // Decreases Cellulite: Anywhere you have cellulite like your booty, or upper thighs when you go in a circular motion it increases the blood flow and circulation causing cellulite to reduce.
3 // Removes Toxins: Dry brushing is really great at removing toxins in your body that are stuck in your Lymphatic System. Thus making you feel so much better and have more energy. Removing toxins also helps with decreasing cellulite.
There are other benefits of dry brushing but these are the top 3 benefits you will see from Dry Brushing. If you are interested in Dry Brushing, do some research, there are tons of websites from Doctors and a lot of YouTube videos, that will give you even more information than I did.
It is a very interesting technique, when I first started doing it I felt like I was brushing a horse or something, but once I felt how soft my skin was afterwards I wanted to keep it up. I highly recommend doing this at least every few days!
Have you ever tried Dry Brushing before? If not, do you want to?
I dry brush ever day and even bought a small brush for travel. It’s an easy routine to get into. The eczmea on my back and shoulders is almost none existent since I started dry brushing
Yes! Dry Brushing is amazing, I’m so glad you do it too!! :)
Interesting, I have a few blogger friends that do this too. The more I hear about it, the more I want to try it… Who am I kidding though… I’m always in such a rush when I take a shower, I wouldn’t have time for dry brushing. LOL
Haha well it actually doesn’t take as long as it sounds, you can brush your whole body in a really short amount of time. But let’s be honest, I don’t do this every day, or sometimes even every week! (shhh don’t tell anyone) :)
I’ve heard so many good things about dry brushing. I have to give it a try! ;)
Yea you definitely should! So easy and so effective!
I have never even heard of this! It sounds like something I need to add to my beauty regimen though. Thanks for sharing with Hump Day Happenings. I’m so glad you joined us!
Yea it’s a pretty cool thing to add! And once you get the hang of it, it literally takes no time to do it! Thanks for having me! :)
Believe it or not, I actually have that exact brush!!! I thought it was an old-school tub brush too : ) I think I need to try dry brushing…
Thanks for sharing on Hump Day Happenings!
Haha I know isn’t that funny! Who knew?! Thanks for stopping by! :)
I’ll have to try this. It seems like the perfect time of year to start since soon it’ll be warm enough to wear shorts and my skin is dried out from winter! Thanks for the info!
Of course! Yea this is a great time of year to start doing it! My skin can get pretty dry in the summer too because of being in the sun and water a lot, so it’s definitely a good tool to rely on.
I just have a question. Why is it important to go towards your heart? You emphasized this several times so I’m just wondering why. I have one of those brushes and I also thought it was decoration- I am actually using it as decoration. Guess I will use it for what it’s intended for now.
Good question! From what I have researched the lymphatic fluid flows through the body towards the heart, so it’s good to go in that same direction.
Fabulous! I’m getting married in September and starting some beauty regiments. This little gem is going into my routine! Thanks for the great info :)
Absolutely! If you start now and keep it up your skin will be so soft and glowing right in time for your wedding day! Congratulations too by the way!!! :)
