Hey girls!!
I know I keep saying it, but I just can’t believe Christmas is next week…where did the time go! Today I am going to help you get ready for that Christmas party you are going to with this SUPER Easy DIY Tartan Christmas Nail Tutorial. Keep reading to find out exactly how to do it.
Easy DIY Tartan Christmas Nails:
What you Need:
- Red Polish of choice…mine is Bloody Mary by Nailtini
- Glitter Polish you could do silver or gold…here is what I used.
- Black Polish…similar one here.
- A thin brush, mine is from a nail art polish and I cleaned it really well, you could also buy a thin brush specially for nail art, or use an old liquid eyeliner brush.
- A top coat
- A paper plate
- A damp paper towel
You could use any color you like for the base, I chose red because that’s just classic Tartan but you could pick green, white, black…etc.
How to Get Tartan Christmas Nails:
1 // Start off with clean nails, get off any previous polish. If you didn’t have polish on wipe each nail with alcohol.
2 // Paint all of your nails red. Just do one coat if the color is opaque enough. Wait for them to dry.

3 // Pour the black polish onto a paper plate, this just makes it much easier when dipping a brush. Dip the thin brush into the black paint, and dab the brush onto the damp paper towel. What this does is makes the black not as opaque making it look more woven. You may skip the damp paper towel part if you want your lines more opaque.
4 // Create two vertical lines on the nail with the black. Wait for them to dry.
5 // Create two horizontal lines over the nail creating a “hashtag”. Your lines don’t have to be perfect, as you can tell mine aren’t super straight and I’m fine with that. Wait for these lines to dry.
6 // Pour the gold glitter polish onto the same paper plate and do the same steps as step number 3.
7 // Pick two lines that cross each other and add the gold glitter to those stripes. To make them all look different I alternated which lines I added the gold glitter to.
8 // Just add the top coat and you my friend are DONE. It’s really easy, actually a lot easier than I was expecting. Anyone can do it.
I did end up adding an additional black line to the right on every nail so it wouldn’t look like a hashtag. However I think it looks great both ways. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, it may not look perfect but to me that makes it look like you took the time to do it at home instead of getting it done from a salon. I’ve already gotten tons of compliments on these just from wearing them one day. You know I will be rockin’ these at the Justin Timberlake concert this weekend. :)
Do you paint your nails a certain way for Christmas?

This is a great tutorial! You made it look super easy. I realized the other day that I don’t have a red nail polish anymore! I chose red when I got a pedicure last week, but I need to buy a bottle soon.
Thank you so much! It actually is super easy! Yea you gotta get a good red, it’s just so classy! :)
