Nighttime Skincare Routine for Oily Skin
Let me start off by telling you about my skin and how I chose these products. First of all my skin is extremely oily, summer or winter it never fails halfway through the day and I’m a shiny mess searching for my blotting papers in the bottom of my purse. Oily skin can be so frustrating and such an upkeep, but I have finally found some amazing products to treat and help my oily skin.
Instead of researching products to use for oily skin, I started researching Ingredients to use for oily skin. I found tons of medical articles and health professionals listing the same ingredients over and over and from there I found products with those specific ingredients in them.
Ingredients to look for:
- Kaolin (Clay) usually found in masks – Kaolin is a naturally occurring white clay that helps absorb oil and mattify skin.
- Dimethicone – mimics oils, leaving skin feeling healthy yet dry after use. Usually found in SPF or daytime moisturizers.
- Glycolic Acid – a powerhouse ingredient for oily skin, especially if you’re prone to breakouts.
- Hyaluronic Acid – is a lightweight moisturizer that will provide hydration to dehydrated areas.
- Niacinamide – bolsters the skin barrier, stimulating the natural production of collagen. It also strengthens the outer layer of skin and increases its surface renewal rate to help reverse the appearance of damage, such as hyperpigmentation and large pores.
- Retinol – keeps pores tighter so that they create and emit less oil.
- Salicylic Acid -is lipophilic, meaning it likes oil. It gets into the pore, which is a sebaceous follicle filled with oil, and sucks the oil out.
Products:
I am listing these in order of use… I will also tell you what Ingredient this has in it to help my oily skin.
1 // Murad Clarifying Cleanser (Salicylic Acid): This cleanser is gentle yet effective. It has never caused my skin any irritation or dryness. It has 2% Salicylic Acid which is great for oily acne prone skin. This cleanser also has time released acne medication that keeps working hours after you wash your face. I can see myself using this cleanser for a long time to come.
2 // Anthony Deep Pore Cleansing Clay: This RED mask includes Kaolin as the main ingredient. This masks really digs deep and gets out any excess oil and makeup leaving pores clean and skin feeling fresh. This is actually made for men, but I love it too. I use it usually once a week on Sunday night before I start a new week. If you have really sensitive skin this might burn as well.
3 // Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 10% Toning Complex: Like it says, it has Glycolic Acid in it which is great to unclog pores and prevent breakouts. I apply this to a cotton round and swipe all over my face until it is covered. I will warn you, because it has a pretty high percentage of Glycolic Acid this can burn, and I mean bad. When I first started using this my skin was probably purging and I would put this on and my whole chin and jaw area would just light up and burn so bad my eyes would water. Now it’s gotten better, but you have been warned.
4 // Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Hyarulonic Acid: This stuff is amazing. It is so lightweight and sinks right into the skin in a matter of seconds. This is just a really great moisturizer for someone with oily skin. The biggest misconception about oily skin is when people think because you have oily skin you don’t need to moisturize. That is so wrong, depriving your skin of moisture makes your skin become dehydrated so it overcompensates for the oil and produces even more oil. So needless to say use a moisturizer, and this one is perfect.
5 // Exuviance Retinol Concentrate: If you are around my age where you aren’t a teenager anymore but you still do have skin issues that a teen might have, but you also have to start thinking about skin issues as you age. Retinol is perfect for both things. It’s great for anti-aging, fine lines and wrinkles, but also for unclogging pores and healing acne and hyperpigmentation. This is a must have for me.
6 // Exuviance Firm NG6 Non Acid Peel: Any skin type can use this because it is a non-acid peel, so it won’t irritate the skin. But basically this is a glycolic peel, without the acid. This will increase cell turnover which creates new skin, and unclogged pores. (I use this about twice a week).
7 // Sanitas Peptide Eye Treatment: This can be used for any skin type as well. This eye treatment is so so good. It glides onto the eye area so smoothly and really moisturizes the skin. I can really tell a difference in my under eye area after using this.
8 // GlamGlow PoutMud Wet Lip Balm Treatment: I slather this all over my lips right before bed and when I wake up it is still on my lips. This is very moisturizing.
So that is everything I use for my super oily skin at night. I don’t use all of these every single day, but overall all of these products work great together to give me great skin. If you have combo to oily skin I would highly recommend any of these products. Remember when you are shopping for oily skin products to look for those ingredients I listed above. As you can see I don’t use every ingredient I listed, but you can figure your skins needs and determine what ingredients you want to use.
I hope this was helpful to you, if this was helpful I would love for you to share this with your friends and family. Share on any Social Media sites by clicking below or clicking on the floating share button on the left side of the screen. It’s really appreciated! :)
What type of skin do you have?
This was such a great post! I too have really oily skin, but ever since we moved to Vienna it’s been a bit more under control. It must be a combination of the products I use and the air here, although I couldn’t tell you how that works, ha. I use a drugstore tea tree oil cleanser, tea tree water spray from Lush, and an anti-aging lotion from L’Oreal in the mornings, vs a drugstore tea tree oil moisturizer at night. The only thing different from what I used when we were in the States is the brand of cleanser/moisturizer, because what I used in the States isn’t available here.
Thank you so much! Oily skin can be such an upkeep huh? At least yours has calmed down a bit since your move! Tea Tree is amazing for oily skin as well, and it smells great!
Thanks for this handy dandy guide! I think I am going to have to switch up my skin care routine. :-)
You are so welcome! I’m glad it was helpful to you! It has really improved my skin big time!
This is so helpful! I’m definitely one of your oily-skinned girls, so thanks for sharing!
Great! I’m so glad this is helpful! Us oily girls have to stick together! :)
