Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge Review | Beauty Blender Dupe?

Hey friends!

I hope you are doing great! Is it really cold where you live? It is crazy cold here (for Georgia at least)… but no snow. If it’s gonna be this cold, I want snow! Anyways today I am reviewing the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, and also comparing it to the Beauty Blender. Stick around to see my thoughts.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

What it is.

“It’s a 3-in-1 multi-functional makeup sponge by Real Techniques. The rounded side blends larger areas of the face. The precision tip covers blemishes/imperfections and the flat edge contours around the eyes and the nose, leaving you with a complexion that’s smooth, enhanced and gorgeous!”

Price & Where to Buy.

The Real Techniques Sponge is $6.99 and can be found at drugstores that sell Real Techniques, and Amazon. Right now you can get 2 sponges for $9.24.

How to Use.

Start out by running the RT sponge under water while squeezing it at the same time. This will allow the water to absorb into the sponge. This will cause the sponge to basically double in size.

Squeeze out any excess water… you don’t want your sponge to be too wet when you use it, or it won’t work properly.

I apply my foundation directly to the sponge, but you can apply it to the back of your hand, or go ahead and dot it onto your face. This is just what works for me.

I found using the flat side to cover my face worked the best, it covers a large area so it doesn’t take long to blend your foundation.

Apply your concealer and use the pointy side (that’s a technical term) to blend.

If you are into “baking” the sharp edge of the sponge is perfect to apply loose powder with. So this goes without saying that this sponge is very versatile.

Compared to the Beauty Blender.ย

So the RT sponge and the Beauty Blender are generally made to do the same thing, but which one is actually better…

  • Cost: RT Sponge… the Beauty Blender is $20
  • Accessibility: RT Sponge, you can find it at more places, so it’s easier to get your hands on it.
  • Application: The Beauty Blender… although they are very close I think the Beauty Blender is slightly better.
  • Functionality: RT Sponge... it is designed to do more.

Here is a post all about the Beauty Blender.

So as you can see the RT Sponge compared to the famous Beauty Blender is just as good if not better. If you already have the Beauty Blender you don’t really need another sponge, but if you don’t have it, and didn’t want to spend $20 on a sponge I definitely think you should check this one out. It’s GREAT!

Which one do I reach for the most… the Beauty Blender! :)

Do you have the Real Techniques Sponge or the Beauty Blender?

NYX has one too! I’ve been using it for about 2 months now and LOVE it! It doesn’t seem to cake as much ad the RT does. (I love the RT too) I hated the BB when I got it just not my thing…. oh, I use it dry… not wet

I haven’t tried the NYX one yet, I would love to give it a try and see what I think. The BB isn’t for everyone, I love mine but I know several people that don’t love it. That is interesting that you use it dry. Any particular reason?

I have the RT, and love it. Bought after I tore my BB accidentally. Altho is there anyway to clean it better?

It’s a great sponge huh? I love it too! I love to clean it with a clarifying shampoo that you would use on your hair. A clear shampoo works best! Wet your RT sponge and put some shampoo in your hand, swirl your sponge around in the shampoo until you get a good lather, squeeze the shampoo and water out and repeat until it is clean. Sometimes makeup will stain your sponge and it won’t come out, but just know the bacteria and other gunk is clean! Hope this helps! :)

I like the RT blender better because of the flat side. It helps makeup go on better than the rounded shape of the BB. At least for me it is preferable.

I own both the beauty blender and the real techniques sponge and agree with you — they’re very comparable. I think I do, though, prefer the beauty blender just a tad more :-) Great comparison!!

Yea I think just because I’ve had the Beauty Blender longer and it’s more worn in I typically use it more. But the Real Techniques one is so close you can hardly tell a difference! It’s nice to find cheaper alternatives!

I’ve never personally tried the beauty blender but I LOVE the Real Techniques sponge and have used it for a few years with my theatre makeup kit. I definitely recommend this to others as a nice alternative to the BB!

Yea it’s really a good sponge, and since you already have it I would just stick with it and not pay $20 for a Beauty Blender! That are virtually the same!
