Happy New Year! I can’t believe it is already 2020! I love the start of a brand new year because it’s such a good time to throw away things you don’t use anymore, get organized and set goals for the year. I’m always super motivated at the beginning of the new year. What about you? What are some goals you set for yourself in 2020? In today’s post I am going back to 2019 just for a bit, I wanna talk to you about my Unexpected Beauty Favorites of 2019. Keep reading to see what they are.
Unexpected Beauty Favorites of 2019
Over the past several years I have done my Beauty Favorites post for the whole year, but this year I wanted to switch it up because those post end up being really long if you pull out every beauty product you loved for an entire year. But this time I am showing you some items I didn’t expect to be favorites, but totally are.
Left to Right.
The Pixi Liquid Lipsticks:
These were sent to me as part of the Pixi Ambassador program quite a while ago, they sent me the entire collection and for some reason I just didn’t try them right away. I think mainly because I assumed they would be another drying liquid lipstick that would eventually dry my lips out. I finally decided to give one of them a try and I was blown away. First impression, they smell amazing, second they are super pigmented and they are not drying at all, plus they are long wearing. I really didn’t expect to have any thoughts about these at all, but I totally love them. I have the full collection, let me know if you would like a full post and swatches on them. (These do dry down to matte, I took the pic before they did that).
Kylie Jenner The Burgundy Kyshadow Palette:
I randomly picked this palette up in Ulta one day last year. I definitely didn’t need this palette because I have several with this same color scheme but I really just wanted to try one of Kylie’s palettes. I didn’t have high expectations or really any at all, I was hoping to like it and use it some. I really love it though. I reach for it a lot more than I thought I would. It has a great mix of mattes and metallics. The colors are rich and pigmented and they blend into the eye beautifully.
Billion Dollar Brows Microblade Effect:
I got this brow product in a BoxyCharm box several months ago and upon first impression I just thought it would be just another brow pencil, but I was so wrong. The applicator has 3 “brushes” pictured above and that makes feather like strokes which is the same effect you would get from microblading. If you don’t know what microblading is, it’s pretty trendy now. But after watching a YouTube video on someone getting it done, it kind of freaks me out so I would rather stick with this instead. :)
JADE Roller:
I have a whole post on Jade rollers and what they are good for, but to be honest when I first got one I thought it was going to be pretty gimmicky. But it isn’t. Whether you see results right away or not it feels amazing. I have a skincare fridge now (thanks to my bff… I’ll do a post on that soon) and this jade roller feels even more perfect after it’s been chilling in the fridge for hours. When it is cold it really helps with depuffing the under eye area. If you have a headache or it’s just been a long day and you are tired just roll one of these all over your face and you will literally feel like you are sitting at a luxurious spa getting some fancy treatment done.
Bioderma Micellar Water:
Old time favorite, I used this years ago and for some reason just stopped, but I bought it again last year and really enjoyed it. I always remove my makeup with my Makeup Eraser, then cleanse my skin as well, but sometimes (actually more often than not), I have leftover eyeliner or mascara that will not budge. I love taking either a cotton round or a Q-tip and soaking it in this micellar water and the makeup comes right off. It is so gentle and easy, with no irritation to my eyes at all. I’m so glad I rediscovered this!
Believe Skin Finish Foundation:
I may have saved the best for last. THIS FOUNDATION is EVERYTHING. First of all it’s only $5! Huh? I’m used to spending $40+ on foundation typically so I was shook when I just paid $5 for this. It is medium to full coverage, definitely buildable, long wearing, and it looks beautiful on the skin. I am not currently wearing it because the color is not right for me right now. But girl this is SO good! So far I have only been able to find it at Dollar General. You gotta try this!
That is everything that I bought last year that sure I was hoping to like it, but didn’t know I would be WOWed by it. With no high expectations, my expectations were exceeded! Can’t wait to discover new things this year that blow me away! Beauty is so fun isn’t it?!
What were some of your unexpected favorites in 2019? I’d love to know!
