Hi Everyone!!
I hope you are having a great day!! Today’s post is really for all the blondes out there, so if you have blonde hair or know someone that does then you are gonna want to stick around for today’s post on How To: Keep Your Blonde Hair Fresh. So keep reading to find out how, blondie!! :)
How To: Keep Your Blonde Hair Fresh
Blondes don’t you just love the way your hair looks right when you leave the salon after you’ve had your color retouched?! It’s amazing right? Your blonde is so bright and fresh and perfect. But if you are like me then after a few weeks/months it starts looking brassy or dingy, basically just not as good as when you left the salon that day. Here are some really simple things you can do to keep your hair looking vibrant and fresh longer.
Use a Purple Shampoo:
I have heard it from stylist time and time again, make sure you use a purple shampoo, and they are all right!! The rich tones in the purple shampoo counteract with the brassy/orange shades in your blonde hair, making your blonde more of an ashy cool toned blonde.
I’ve tried many brands of purple shampoo and my favorite right now is Lee Stafford’s Bleach Blondes Shampoo and Conditioner. The darker the purple, the better it will work and this baby is dark. Plus it has a really great smell and lathers amazingly.
I use this about once a week. (If you use it too much or leave it on too long your hair can turn a very light shade of pink… it’s actually quiet cute, but keep that in mind)
Buy a Shower Filter:
You might be thinking what is she talking about?! There is chlorine and iron in our water and when you use that over and over on your hair it becomes a lot more dull, the color fades quickly, and iron can actually make your hair brassy. So when you buy a filter, it’s just filtering out all that bad junk. These work really great, plus it’s good for not only your hair, but your skin too!
These come in a range of prices but I’ve always used a cheaper one and love it. They are really easy to install as well. You can buy these on Amazon or Home Depot.
Use Sulfate Free Shampoo:
This goes for anyone with any color treated hair, but sulfate which is found in pretty much every shampoo, can actually strip your hair color causing it to fade much much quicker.
One of my favorites is L’Oreal Sulfate Free Color Care Line
Use Special Treatments:
You don’t have to do these, but when my hair starts looking real bad, but my appointment isn’t for another 2 weeks these babies really help.
The first one is the EverPure Blonde Shade Reviving Treatment, this is also a purple treatment but it’s different from the shampoo because it deeply penetrates hair to restore it’s non-brassy color in 1 use. You apply this to dry hair and leave on for 3-5 minutes then rinse out. You will really see your hair change with this product!
The next treatment I use is the Keratin Complex Blondshell Hair Mask, now with this I’m not sure how much it’s helping my color but it really helps with moisturizing my hair. Blonde hair can get very dry from being over-processed and this makes my hair so soft and healthy.
I use this about once a week or once every two weeks.
So that is what I do to keep my blonde hair fresh and vibrant before I can get to a salon again. I hope this post was helpful to you, and gave you some products you can try for your hair.
(All of these treatments work for anyone with silver hair as well)
Do you have color treated hair? Do you use special treatments to keep your color lasting?
Anna, those are fabulous tips! I can add also one: use a UV protection spray. I am using the Wicked good by Colorproof! Helps to not get that brassy bleach from the sun going! ;-) I hope all is well, Hugs, Sissi
Oh that’s a great idea Sissi!! Thanks for including that!! :) I should probably start using it myself!! Hope you are doing great!!
